Nevertheless, it is important to consider the flex of the shaft of the golf clubs also, because this will ultimately affect your game. When you swing the golf club, there is an imperceptible flex in the shaft. It may not be noticeable as you are in the process of swinging the club at the time. Golf clubs are assigned with a flex rating that gives an idea of the flexibility in the shaft. These ratings are classified as regular (R) , Seniors (A), Ladies (L), Stiff (S) and extra stiff (X). If you hit the ball with a club that has the flex rating you are not used to, the shot will angle towards the wrong direction. It can be very frustrating because this will affect your game. Therefore, in order to avoid such a turn of events, care should be taken while selecting the correct shaft rating.
Each individual has their own special trait of swinging the club. If the person swings the golf club very fast, he will need a stiff club. If the long shots fly to the left of the target, then the golf club is too flexible. You need to play with a stiff club. If you have a slow swing then you need to use a flexible club. If your shots turn towards the right of the target, then again you need a club with more flex.
The best way to find out which category you fit in is to try to hit the ball as far as possible on a driving range. If the maximum drive is 200yards, opt for an L rating. If the drive is between 200 to 230 yards, go for an S flex rating. Between 230 and 250 yards calls for an R rating, 250 yards and more would be S flex rating. XS rating is generally used by professional golfers and is not a practical option for ordinary golf players.
