Antique Door Knobs: Vintage Beauty
There was actually a time wherein homeowners could not wait to have their ornate knobs be exchanged with faceless ones with smooth finishes of nickel, brass and copper. It got to a point when engraved faces and glistening glass of the old style of door knobs became obsolete and thousands of door knobs ended up in the bins of cities throughout the world but surprisingly, today, antique door knob is the way to go. It’s what everybody wants.
In the market today, original antique door knobs would cost a fortune but with the kind of technology that we have, there are already a handful of manufacturers that jumped into the marketplace with replicas of antique door knobs as well as new designs that capture the age-old look many homeowners want. Such new manufactures is very budget-friendly compared to the antique ones that’s why most people are going for it. It’s not just door knobs that they make but also, keyhole covers and thumb turns to skeleton keys and strikers.
Now, with strikers, nothing breaks the illusion of the vintage when something clearly modern lies just beyond the edge. If you want to remodel a door through adding antique door knobs, there is no point in having a modern striker on the door jam. Good thing is that designers have already thought this through and most antique door knobs have matching strikers that will work for nearly any door, even those that have a lock and thumb turns.
But just before you will purchase a striker separately, always ensure that your antique door knobs don’t already have them in the kit. Many new manufactures include the strike plate as well as the face plate and so there is no need for you to purchase the strike But then, actual antique door knobs normally don’t have the original strike plate, and so you would really need to buy one if you’re installing originals.
Since you get to choose preferred types of antique door knobs likes copper, brass, silver or other modern finishes, you could also change the look entirely and go with something less common just like the hammered cooper which has an oil-rubbed bronze finish to it. People buy it since it has more depth and texture to it.
There are still a lot of designs to choose from and good thing since there is already an Internet wherein you could just sit in front of your computer and look at a number of designs that would surely suit your taste.
